LEMONT – The Lemont Public Library has been awarded a $15,000 grant from Citgo Petroleum to fund Launch into STEM, according to a library news release.
The program will be designed to engage middle-school students, ages 11 to 14, in hands-on, interest-based interaction with science education while inspiring creativity and curiosity, the release stated.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.
Citgo’s grant will enable the library to equip a Teen STEM Lab with appropriate technology, including a 3-D printer and a zSpace: Virtual Reality Learning Experience computer, according to the release.
Launch into STEM will include open lab hours, as well as bimonthly programs planned and presented in collaboration with Citgo employees with science expertise, the release stated.
Library patrons should look for more news throughout the fall and a special Launch into STEM event in early January 2018. Programming and open lab hours will begin that month as well, according to the release.
