Elmhurst police to conduct roadside safety checkpoints

ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Police Department will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint from 11:30 p.m. Aug. 12 to 3:30 a.m. Aug. 13 on a major roadway in Elmhurst, according to a Police Department news release.

During the safety checkpoint, vehicles will be stopped at a predetermined interval and checked for violations, the release stated.

Periodic roadside safety checkpoints are set up throughout the year as part of a year-long grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation that provides funding for additional enforcement of driving under the influence and seatbelt laws, according to the release.

The Elmhurst Police Department participates in this grant in an effort to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes, the release stated.

Roadside safety checkpoints have proven to be a significant deterrent to impaired driving, according to the release.
