LA GRANGE PARK – La Grange School District 102 students of all ages showcased their talents in the areas of science, technology, engineering and creative-making March 3 during the STEM Expo at Forest Road School in La Grange Park.
More than 20 fifth- and sixth-graders had participated in the Lego WeDo Carnival Design program, where they met after school on Wednesdays in February to design and code Ferris wheels, Tilt-A-Whirls and more to show off at the district-wide expo.
The students built their rides using the Lego WeDo robotics kits and then programmed them to move.
Virginia Hohl, District 102 science teacher and program leader, said the district has held science fairs for years, but it wanted to change the name this year to STEM Expo to include more technology, engineering and “maker-style” projects, instead of just traditional science experiments.
