Downers Grove home burglarized after back door kicked in

DOWNERS GROVE – A house in the 7200 block of O’Neill Road in Downers Grove reportedly was burglarized between April 7 and 10 while the owner was out of town, according to a Downers Grove Police Department report.

A neighbor who was watching the house for the owner called police after noticing the rear door had been kicked in, the report stated.

Police found the upstairs bedrooms ransacked, dresser drawers searched and numerous items scattered on the floor, according to the report. A safe was on a bed, and a jewelry box was opened. Some jewelry remained in the box while other items were on the bed, the report stated.

The neighbor told police he checked the house earlier in the day April 7, and there was no damage to the door or signs of entry, police said.

Police spoke to the homeowner by phone, and he will report an inventory of stolen items when he returns, according to the report.
