Man escapes police custody in Elmhurst

Retail theft suspect no longer believed to be in area

ELMHURST – Elmhurst police have discontinued their search of the area near North and Larch avenues for a subject who escaped from police custody.

The police believe the suspect, who was in custody for alleged retail theft, is no longer in the immediate vicinity, according to an Elmhurst Police Department Facebook post that was updated about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The subject is described as a 38-year-old Hispanic man who is 5 feet 8 inches tall, 180 pounds and wearing a yellow shirt and red pants, according to the post, which originally was issued about 7 p.m. Wednesday. He may be handcuffed, the post stated.

Police ask anyone seeing this person to call 630-530-3050.
