ELMHURST – In light of two separate home burglaries reported by northeast Elmhurst residents returning home from vacation, Elmhurst police have security reminders for residents.

One burglary reportedly occurred between 4 p.m. July 29 and 4 p.m. Aug. 2 in the 200 block of East Grantley Avenue, and another burglary was reported at 5:46 p.m. Aug. 5 in the 400 block of North Elm Avenue, according to police reports.

Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Mike McLean said Aug. 7 that Elmhurst police do not believe the burglaries occurred on the same day.

He reminded residents who are going on vacation to take certain precautions, such as setting security alarm systems, turning on timed lighting, having a trusted neighbor or familiy member watch the home, locking doors and windows, and having newspapers and packages promptly removed after they are delivered.

McLean said the cases are still under investigation.
