Bond was set at $500,000 Oct. 11 for a Westmont man charged with crashing his car into a tree in Downers Grove while driving under the influence – splitting the vehicle in half and killing his passenger, Annajeanne Dewey.

Onecimo Vazquez-Valazquez, 30, of the 300 block of West Naperville Road, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing death, attempting to leave the scene of an accident involving death and reckless homicide – all felonies, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office news release.

Vazquez-Valazquez allegedly was speeding northbound on Fairview Avenue near 55th Street at about 1 a.m. Oct. 7 when he attempted to pass a car by entering the center turn lane, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the tree, the release stated.

Following the crash, Vazquez-Valazquez allegedly left the scene but returned a short time later, according to the release. It is alleged his blood alcohol content was 0.077 about 1 1/2 hours after the crash, the release stated.

Vazquez-Valazquez is scheduled to appear Nov. 5 in DuPage County court for arraignment.
