DOWNERS GROVE – Whether she's floating two stories above the stage as Glinda the Good Witch or portraying Aunt Em trying to ready her Kansas farm for an imminent twister, the characters played by Harriet Nzinga Plumpp of Downers Grove are part of a whirlwind production of "The Wizard of Oz" at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora through Jan. 6.
Additional DuPage County talents are part of the critically acclaimed musical, helmed by award-winning director and choreographer Amber Mak.
Elyssa Hall of Elmhurst, a fifth-grader at Emerson Elementary School, is in the Lullaby League and young Trey Thompson of Carol Stream is part of the Lollipop Guild. Peter Sipla of Warrenville is one of the puppeteers who add menacing flying monkeys and other creatures to the visual feast, accompanied live by a 14-piece orchestra.
"We are having a great time doing it," Nzinga Plumpp said. "This is my first time flying. It's really fun [and] probably the easiest part of my role."
