Rep. Bill Foster, D-Naperville, announced he will join the House Census Caucus, which promotes the importance of the 2020 U.S. Census and educates members of Congress on the topic.
“An accurate count of our country’s population is one of the foundations of our democratic system,” Foster said. “The U.S. Census is vital to our ability to determine fair representation ... as well as the efficient allocation of funding for priorities like education, transportation and social services.”
Foster said data gathered through the census helps researchers conduct quality studies about the changes in the country’s demography for the future.
He’s been specifically concerned about proposed changes to the 2020 census like a citizenship question, which could adversely affect the resources allocated in Illinois.
