“I just wanted to help the team get another championship,” said the Iowa State-bound Diab. “It’s very bittersweet knowing this all comes an end and I’m moving on from this chapter in my life, but I’m just happy with the way it ended.”
Diab finished with 10 career individual titles and 15 top-five, all-state medals, four for second. The IHSGGCA Senior Gymnast of the Year became the fourth gymnast with an IHSA-best three all-around state titles along with two on vault, uneven bars and beam and one on floor.
“To really solidify the team championship on Friday and just put that cherry on top for a career, what she did in one day, athletes would hope to do in four years,” Glenbard West coach Carlos Fuentes said. “You talk about a generational-type athlete. She might be a one-in-a generation, maybe two or three generations. Not just at Glenbard West but any high school.”
