WW South (22-8), unbeaten in February, held Lake Park (21-9) under 40 points for the third time this year – the last two times under 30 – to advance to Thursday's sectional final against Bartlett. The Hawks beat two-time defending state champion Geneva 60-52 in the second semifinal.
"Very proud of my girls," WW South coach Rob Kroehnke said ."We talked about keeping them under 30. They did a nice job."
Ruggles scored 11 points, Mackenzie Stebbins and Mira Emma 10 each for WW South, which never trailed.
It all started at the other end.
Lake Park, a team which took down Montini in January with the 3-point shot, shot just 2-for-27 from 3-point range. Rogers, who had 21 points and 18 rebounds, shot 7-for-17 but missed seven of eight shots in the second and third quarters with DePaul head coach Doug Bruno in attendance.
