Walk for Wellness House fundraiser set for May 5

More than 3,000 cancer survivors, families, friends and volunteers will gather May 5 in support of people living with cancer at the annual Walk for Wellness House fundraiser.

The event will begin and end at Wellness House, 131 N. County Line Road, Hinsdale.

Since opening its doors, Wellness House has served more than 40,000 people affected by cancer. Programs are all evidence-based and range from exercise and nutrition, stress management, support groups and counseling, information and education and child/family programs.

“Individuals can choose what works best for them as they navigate their own individual cancer journey,” said Jeannie Cella, president and CEO of Wellness House.

Individuals made 37,700 visits to Wellness House in 2018. Funds raised at the walk comprise more than 20 percent of the organization’s annual budget.

It’s only through donations and fundraisers that Wellness House can provide more than 400 free programs a month at the main location in Hinsdale and 75 programs a month at partner locations around Chicago.

This year’s goal is to raise $575,000 to benefit the programs.

Register at walk.wellnesshouse.org for the 3K walk or the 5K run, which has timed or untimed options. Everyone registers as an individual, but participants have the option of forming or joining a team.

The schedule for the event:

7 to 8 a.m.: Event-day registration, T-shirt pickup, breakfast snacks and family activities

8:30 a.m.: Race begins

10 a.m. to 11a.m.: Event wrap-up
