Greco, a point guard in basketball, said her experience in hoops helps her handle any tense situations in softball. Her main job in the Mustangs’ offense revolves around directing her teammates and navigating various defenders and defenses.
“Basketball has helped me so much in softball,” she said. ”Basketball is very fast and there’s so much pressure. It requires a lot of agility and athleticism to be successful. There’s so much pressure that it’s ridiculous. But it’s helped me become better in softball.”
After a standout season in basketball that ended by placing second in the Class 4A 3-point contest in Normal, Greco plans on closing out her prep career with another flurry. She committed to play softball at George Washington next season, but she’s aiming to lead the Mustangs to a memorable ending. She batted .506 with 11 doubles and 22 steals last season.
Greco is off to a fast start to this spring.
She's batting .531 with four doubles, has drawn four walks and scored 14 runs.
Greco admitted she’s not looking forward to her final home game, calling her senior night in basketball “very emotional.”
“We really want to beat our rivals, Downers Grove North,” she said. “We have not beaten them in so long. I think we have a good shot to do well in the playoffs. I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can do the rest of the season.”
