Evan Taylor did not need long to find a new collegiate home.

He’s heading east.

Taylor, a Glenbard West senior and the Suburban Life Player of the Year for boys basketball, announced his commitment to Lehigh on April 16.

Lehigh, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Patriot League, offered Taylor on April 8 – a day after he decommitted from Southern Illinois and reopened his recruitment.

Taylor visited Lehigh this past weekend and firmed up his plans days later.

“I did want to get it done quickly, so I could know what my plan is and know what I need to do,” Taylor said. “The school is beautiful. I was able to meet the players. It was a great visit, super nice.”

Lehigh, which had recruited Taylor some during his original recruitment, was the first school to reach out to him after he was granted his release.

“The process this time was definitely a little more stressful. It was more schools that wanted to get me on campus, they wanted to talk to me,” Taylor said. “Lehigh did a very good job, especially on my visit, of making me feel like I was needed in the program. They talked about how they can develop me as a player and what I can do to help the team now and in the future.”

Lehigh’s most notable recent alum is Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum, who led the Mountain Hawks to an upset of Duke in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Taylor and his family did their research on the school and how they envisioned Taylor contributing to the program.

Taylor will graduate from Glenbard West as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,479 points. He averaged 21.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists as a senior.

“They need a little more playmaking and that’s where they see me fitting in,” Taylor said. “Getting me to spots, getting to the rim and using my midrange jump shot to help this team. They need that person that can get to the rim and make things happen.”
