GLEN ELLYN – DuPage Woodworkers will present a program on furniture making at 7 p.m. May 20 in Glen Ellyn.
The monthly meeting will be at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church at 480 S. Park Blvd. It’s a change back to the normal schedule of program gatherings each third Monday of the month at St. James, member Keith Rosche of Wheaton said.
This month’s presenter will be John Kriegshauser. He has a special interest in woodworking, Rosche said, noting he will talk about tips for making furniture, including a focus on chairs. His presentation will follow a short meeting, a show-and-tell, and coffee and cookies.
Plans already are underway for the club’s annual auction of woodworking tools. The live auction will start at 9 a.m. July 20 at the church.
“Members can bring in tools they want to dispose of and sell at auction,” Rosche said. “You can make room for new tools in your shop.”
The regular auctioneer has been former club president Rich Rossio, but health issues will put someone else in his role this year. People are invited by Rosche to extend well wishes to Rossio with a call; contact information is offered on the club website.
The former shop teacher founded the club, Rosche said of Rossio.
The club welcomes new members of all skill levels.
Among the club’s projects is a holiday toymaking effort. It resulted in some of the group’s 175 members making more than 2,300 toys for donation to charities stretching from Chicago to Kane County, Rosche said.
Crafting toys for charities, visiting members’ woodworking shops, attending wood shows in Milwaukee and Iowa City, and sponsoring the tool auction are some of the events organized by the group throughout the year.
The 2019 club president is George Rogers. To learn more or to check out the newsletter, visit www.dupagewoodworkers.org.
