The Lewis University Women’s Basketball Team visited the site where the Allied invasion of France took place during World War II just a week before the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
The team visited the site as part of a travel study course. They were also in France to play local basketball teams, according to a news release.
The students toured Omaha Beach, the Longues-sur-Mer battery, the Bayeux War Cemetery and the American Cemetery, in addition to spending time in Paris, Rouen and Reims.
“Some people say that history is a thing of the past, but it is all around us,” history professor Dennis Cremin said. “On this 75th anniversary, I encourage us to all remember Normandy and those who sacrificed so much for our freedom.”
