BOLINGBROOK – The Bolingbrook Arts Council Commission has created “Arts on the Row: An Evening of Jazz & Fine Art,” a three-part series presented the last Friday of June, July and August at The Promenade Bolingbrook.
“We are so pleased to continue our partnership with The Promenade,” Phyllis Erickson, who chairs the commission, stated in a news release. “The success of our August 2018 Promenade pop-up gallery proved that Bolingbrook is receptive to fine art presentations.”
For 2019, the commission is showcasing works by local artists in an outdoor art gallery, complemented by live jazz music in a Ravinia-like concert atmosphere.
“For each of the scheduled Fridays, we are highlighting different artists and different styles of jazz,” Commissioner Mithra Zaucha, the lead organizer of “Arts on the Row,” stated in the release. “In June, it will be swing jazz; we’ve also planned Latin jazz and jazz blues for the other events.”
It kicks off with the outdoor art gallery featured from 6 to 9 p.m. June 28 near Rock Bottom Brewery, with The Pete Ellman Big Band playing from 7 to 9 p.m. A swing dance lesson will be offered from 6:30 to 7 p.m. by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. The band, helmed by Ellman on trumpet, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. He and other musicians in the ensemble have performed with many well-known artists.
Patrons are welcome to bring their own tables and chairs or picnic for a complete evening out. One can opt to call ahead to Promenade restaurants for carryout or visit the food trucks that will be on hand. Open-flamed candles or outside alcohol are not permitted.
