Man arrested after shooting during Lyons traffic stop

A 24-year-old man who reportedly fired a gun at a Lyons police officer June 25 after a routine traffic stop on Ogden Avenue was arrested after a pursuit involving several police departments, according to a news release from the village of Lyons.

The incident occurred when a Lyons police officer performed a traffic stop involving excessive speeding around 5:45 p.m. on Ogden Avenue between White and Leland streets, according to the release.

The male driver, later identified as Ricardo Soto, 24, reportedly jumped out of the car and began firing a weapon at the officer. He then got back into the car and fled, the release stated.

The officer was not injured, according to the release.

Two passengers, a man and a woman, fled on foot, but were arrested a short time later, the release stated.

Soto abandoned the car near the 8000 block of 42nd Street and was arrested about 7 p.m. near the 7800 block of West Ogden Avenue.

Lyons police pursued Soto with support from police from nearby communities, including McCook, Riverside, Berwyn and Forrest View. A Chicago police helicopter and the Illinois State Police also were involved in the pursuit.
