Totus Tuus Summer Camp Teaches Kids About Catholic Faith

Religion can play a very important part in a person’s life, and in today’s world, it can bring peace and understanding, along with empathy for others. For children, it’s especially important that they learn to feel strong, confident, and generous, which can all be developed through a thoughtful and enjoyable faith-based curriculum.

Totus Tuus, which means “Totally Yours”, is a fun, energetic Catholic youth program taught by seminarians and college students throughout the Diocese of Joliet. “We have so much fun singing songs, playing games, and performing skits that help us open our eyes to the miracle of Mass, helping us better understand the gift of the Sacraments and the richness of our faith,” said Dolly Pointner, Director of Religious Formation for St. Joan of Arc Catholic School and Church. “Students have a great time while learning more about their faith.”

The camp takes place July 15th - 20th at St. Joan of Arc. Students entering grades 7-12 meet Sunday through Thursday from 7 - 9 pm, and grades 1-6 meet Monday through Friday from 8 am - 1:30 pm. “Students will learn more about Jesus and how he’s truly present in our lives,” added Pointner. “It’s more in-depth than a vacation Bible School. Last year a first grader told me he loved learning Latin and understanding what it meant.”

On the last day of camp, the older kids can participate in an exciting shaving cream whiffle ball tournament, while the younger grades enjoy a fun water day outside.

As an added benefit, St. Joan of Arc is offering parishioners an extra program for preschool-aged (and potty-trained) children. For more information about the preschool portion of Totus Tuus, or to register your preschooler, please call the Religious Formation office at 630-353-4528.
