Elmhurst Cycling Classic Returns on July 27

With gift-in-kind sponsorship from the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Sixth Annual Elmhurst Cycling Classic returns around the Elmhurst College campus and Wilder Park on Friday, July 27, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Organized by the DuPage Cycling Foundation, the Classic is part of the Intelligentsia Cup, a “tour” of bike races in cities around Chicagoland, similar to the Tour de France, which moves in stages from town to town.  Race organizers have again scheduled racing under the lights with the 90-minute men’s professional race pedaling off at 8:40 p.m.

Thousands of fans and cyclists enjoyed the 2017 event, which can be viewed on-line, and Elmhurst Our Kind of Town will videotape this year’s racing for cable TV rebroadcast in July.

Homeowners on Elm Park Avenue, Grave Avenue and Alexander Boulevard along the 1.2-mile course host watch parties for their neighbors and friends.

Presenting sponsors are Superior Ambulance, Edward-Elmhurst Health, Storino, Ramello & Durkin, all Chamber members, and Christopher B. Burke Engineering, plus assistance from Explore Elmhurst.

Classic sponsors include Chamber members Elmhurst College, Elmhurst Park District, Larry Roesch Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Pints, Olympia Chiropractic & Physical Therapy, Mehta Motors, Berkshire Hathaway Koenig Rubloff Realty Group, Alpine Creek Dental, L.W. Reedy Real Estate, Brewpoint Coffee, Kilwins and Tail Gate.

L. W. Reedy, Alpine Creek and Tail Gate are sponsoring the 12:45 p.m. Men’s Masters 35+ race, 4:15 p.m. Men’s Category 2/3 race and 8:10 p.m. Handcycling (Open) race, respectively.

At 6:20 p.m., family members of all ages can leisurely pedal the course during the Olympia Chiropractic Family Fun Ride, presented by the Elmhurst Park District.

Proceeds have benefitted District 205 Foundation for Education Excellence, Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation, Elmhurst College, Elmhurst Memorial Foundation, Elmhurst Walk In Assistance Network, Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry, Spirito! Singers, and United Community Concerns.
