[A delectable duck ragout is paired with fresh house-made pasta.]
We were greeted by the host late on a Saturday afternoon, who told us he'd been working in the food industry since he was a teen at the famed Como Inn in Chicago before moving on to a variety of high-profile Italian eateries.
Judging from our visit, Avanzare has pulled together all the best elements – warm hospitality, pampering service and fabulous flavors including fresh pasta made in-house and wood-fired pizza.
We began our relaxed meal by sharing a terrific poached pear salad with almonds, goat cheese and peppery arugula in a subtle lemon dressing. It arrived pretty as a picture with the wine-rosy pears ringing the greens. For another visit, our server also suggested the beet salad prepared with roasted beets, shaved fennel, arugula, orange segments, goat cheese and citrus oil.
