WHEATON – One can make a resolution to volunteer in 2020 by attending the DuPage Forest Preserve District’s Volunteer Open House on Jan.11, and a Volunteer Information Session on Jan. 30, both at District headquarters at 3S5800 Naperville Road in Wheaton.
The Jan. 11 open house runs from 9 a.m. to noon and will showcase 50 volunteer opportunities in 10 volunteer programs, a news release stated. A PowerPoint presentation at 10 a.m. will highlight each program, and attendees can talk to volunteers and staff members throughout the event. The one-hour information session Jan. 30 will feature a general overview of volunteer opportunities from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Forest Preserve District volunteers introduce school groups and families to nature, bring history to life, and care for animals. They restore critical habitats and help visitors explore forest preserve trails and discover new outdoor activities such as archery, kayaking and geocaching.
Adults, junior volunteers and families can choose from weekly, monthly and one-time opportunities. Scout groups, church groups, corporations and community organizations can coordinate group workdays.
