Hinsdale nonprofit FreeSpeakers.org goes virtual with offerings

Many of the speakers who belong to FreeSpeakers.org are willing and able to present topics virtually.

In fact, some speakers have updated their topics to reflect the financial and health crises due to COVID-19, a news release stated.

The community service project, FreeSpeakers.org, is a pro bono speakers bureau serving the region's clubs and organizations for nearly 25 years. It was started in Hinsdale.

FreeSpeakers.org normally serves the community through live, in-person seminars and speaking engagements. Rarely do the speakers engage in virtual meetings. However, a lot has changed due to the coronavirus.

“We asked our speakers about the idea of presenting virtually, and the response was very enthusiastic,” Andy Richardson, director of FreeSpeakers.org, stated in the release. “Perhaps you are continuing your organization’s meetings virtually via [a] web conference such as Zoom. If you need a presentation during this time, know that most of our speakers are willing to present virtually.”

As always, all speakers present at no cost, and there is no fee from the bureau.

“Our speakers, by nature of presenting their topics and knowledge, are very community service-minded,” Richardson said. “When asked about helping the community by presenting virtually, the speakers overwhelmingly said yes. They are here to help the community.”

Now is the perfect time for a group to bring a speaker into their virtual meeting who can present talks about motivation, health or navigating uncertainty in the markets, Richardson said.

Topic categories cover business, educational, entertainment, financial, health and fitness, motivational, self-improvement and miscellaneous subjects.

FreeSpeakers currently serves the regions of Chicago, Phoenix, Washington, Milwaukee and Indianapolis, drawing on more than 500 speakers and more than a thousand topics available to groups.
