High school athletic teams hoping to begin summer workouts will have to wait a bit longer to find out when they can start.

In a statement Friday afternoon, IHSA executive director Craig Anderson said the organization is still waiting to to confirm details with the Illinois Department of Publich Health but hopes to issue guidelines by June 1.

“The IHSA and Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) continue to work together to finalize Return to Play Guidelines focused on safely reuniting IHSA coaches and student-athletes within the guidelines of Phase Three of Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan and the IDPH’s best practices," Anderson said.

"We refuse to compromise safety in this process, and anticipate being able to enact and educate our member schools on the Return to Play Guidelines by Monday, June 1.”

The statement comes as all four health regions within Illinois entered Phase 3 of Gov. JB Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan Friday. Chicago will enter Phase 3 on Wednesday.

The guideines will closely following a blueprint laid out by the National Federation of High Schools last week with input from the IDPH.
