BERWYN - A 6 p.m. curfew has been instituted Monday in Berwyn following a second day of protests that included shots fired at the police on Cermak Road.
Eastbound traffic on Roosevelt Road in Berwyn was rerouted earlier in the day to control current disruption identified in the community, according to notice from Berwyn Mayor Robert Lovero.
Additionally, all traffic on Cermak Road between Harlem and Oak Park avenues is being restricted.
As a result of demonstrations identified in nearby communities, businesses should be on alert. Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity immediately.
Meanwhile, Riverside, based on police intelligence from surrounding communities, asked businesses to close at 3 p.m. and advised residents to stay home. Surrounding communities are doing the same, according to the village.
In Lemont, the village is implementing a 9 p.m. curfew Monday and Tuesday in order to assist in local and area policing efforts in response to unrest in the region.
The curfew will be in effect until 6 a.m. Police advise businesses to close by 9 p.m. each night and remain closed until 6 a.m. the next day.
