COVID-19 total hospitalizations up, ICU patients down, 36 new deaths in Illinois

Illinois reported 36 deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday, and 869 new cases, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

A total of 30,262 people were tested in the previous 24 hours. The state’s seven-day positivity rate remained 2.6%, and the 24-hour positivity rate was 2.87%.

The state now has seen 144,882 cases of the virus and 6,987 people have died since the pandemic began. A total of 1,666,317 tests have been run during the pandemic.

As of Wednesday night, Illinois had 1,651 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, an increase of 140 patients from the previous 24 hours. Of those currently hospitalized, 349 were in the ICU, an decrease of 35 from the previous day, and 195 were on ventilators, an increase of six from the previous day.

Since the state's low of hospitalizations on June 27, Illinois has seen a 12.8% increase in COVID-19 related hospitalizations.

New deaths announced include:

• Cook County: 1 male 40s, 2 females 50s, 1 male 50s, 1 female 60s, 4 males 60s, 3 females 70s, 4 males 70s, 3 females 80s, 2 males 80s, 6 females 90s, 1 male 90s

• DeKalb County: 1 male 80s

• DuPage County: 1 female 80s

• Kane County: 1 female 70s

• Lake County: 2 females 70s, 1 male 70s

• St. Clair County: 1 female 70s

• Winnebago County: 1 female 80s
