Illinois announces 1,195 new cases of COVID-19, 24 additional deaths

Seven-day average positivity rate rises to 3.0%

Illinois announced 24 additional deaths from COVID-19 and 1,195 more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday.

The Illinois Department of Public Health said that 3.7% of 32,345 total tests in the previous 24 hours came back positive.

The state's seven-day rolling positivity rate is 3.0%. Illinois has now seen 152,962 total cases of the virus and 7,168 people have died. A total of 1,944,088 people have been tested.

As of late Friday night, Illinois had 1,398 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 321 were in the ICU and 139 were on ventilators. The state had 13,354 open hospital beds.

As of Saturday, Chicago has seen 54,968 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the rest of Cook County has seen 40,170.

Lake County has seen 10,318 confirmed cases, DuPage 9,641, Kane 8,078, Will 7,223, McHenry 2,248, Kendall 1,048, DeKalb 637, Ogle 296, La Salle 254, Whiteside 209, Grundy 193, Lee 105, Bureau 37 and Carroll 20.

Regional update: As of Saturday, the Northeast region (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, McHenry, Lake and Will counties) reported a positivity rate average of 4%. The region reported an average of 33% of medical/surgical beds available, 43% of ICU beds available and 74% of ventilators available.

The North Central region (Bureau, DeKalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Whiteside, Carroll, Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Putnam and Jo Daviess counties) reported a positivity rate rolling average of 3%. On average, the region has enough medical/surgical beds to accommodate a 46% surge in COVID-19 cases. The region reported that 53% of ICU beds are available and 76% of ventilators are available.

The Central region reported an average positivity rate of 2%. On average, there was an availability of 40% of medical/surgical beds, 47% of ICU beds and 79% of ventilators.

The Southern region had an average positivity rate of 4%. On average, there was an availability of 44% of medical/surgical beds, 49% of ICU beds and 81% of ventilators.

Newly reported deaths include:

- Cook County: 2 females 50s, 1 male 50s, 4 males 60s, 3 females 70s, 3 males 70s, 1 female 80s, 3 females 90s, 1 male 90s

- DuPage County: 1 female 60s, 1 male 70s

- Kankakee County: 1 female 70s

- McHenry County: 1 female 80s

- Will County: 1 male 60s

- Winnebago County: 1 female 70s
