Illinois reports 954 new coronavirus cases and 20 additional deaths

State reaches another testing high with nearly 39,000 tests in last 24 hours

Illinois reached a new one-day testing high with 38,894 COVID-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours with 2.45% coming back positive, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced Sunday.

The IDPH reported 20 additional deaths related to COVID-19 and 954 more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. The positivity rate was the state's lowest since July 7.

The state's seven-day rolling positivity rate remained at 3.0%. Illinois has now seen 153,916 total cases of the virus and 7,187 people have died. A total of 1,982,982 people have been tested.

As of late Saturday night, Illinois had 1,342 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 311 were in the ICU and 127 were on ventilators.

As of Sunday, Chicago has seen 55,226 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the rest of Cook County has seen 40,331.

Lake County has 10,378 confirmed cases; DuPage 9,719; Kane 8,107; Will 7,278; McHenry 2,266; Kendall 1,063; DeKalb 642; Ogle 314; La Salle 259; Whiteside 212; Grundy 194; Lee 107; Bureau 37 and Carroll 21.

Regional update: As of Saturday, the Northeast region (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, McHenry, Lake and Will counties) reported a positivity rate average of 4%. The region reported an average of 33% of medical/surgical beds available, 43% of ICU beds available and 74% of ventilators available.

The North Central region (Bureau, DeKalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Whiteside, Carroll, Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Putnam and Jo Daviess counties) reported a positivity rate rolling average of 3%. On average, the region has enough medical/surgical beds to accommodate a 45% surge in COVID-19 cases. The region reported that 52% of ICU beds are available and 76% of ventilators are available.

The Central region reported an average positivity rate of 2%. On average, there was an availability of 39% of medical/surgical beds, 47% of ICU beds and 81% of ventilators.

The Southern region had an average positivity rate of 4%. On average, there was an availability of 43% of medical/surgical beds, 49% of ICU beds and 81% of ventilators.

- Cass County: 1 female 90s

- Cook County: 2 females 60s, 1 male 60s, 2 female 70s, 5 male 70s, 2 female 80s, 2 female 90s

- DuPage County: 1 female 80s, 1 male 90s

- Morgan County: 1 male 60s

- Will County: 1 male 60s

- Winnebago County: 1 female 80s
