I would say a favorite vacation is ... all of them. I've always enjoyed taking time off and going to different destinations. Seeing the world. If I had to pinpoint one though, I would say it was my first trip to Barbados. The year was 1999 and Walter Payton had passed away the first day of our trip.
My good friend Aleen and I completed our scuba diving training in Crystal Lake, including pool and open water dive. We were young, cute, single, had all of our gear and ready to travel somewhere big on one of our first scuba trips. Coincidentally, we both wanted to go to Barbados. As an added bonus, they had a flight special going and we found a great deal on a hotel.
Our first Caribbean dive did not disappoint. The “vis” or water visibility is spectacular. You can be down 30 or 60 feet and can easily see very far. Then there’s the warmth of the water. You can be 130 feet down in just a thin wetsuit and be fine. Most of the time, you just need your bathing suit, which is more comfortable.
We put in a lot of dives and shared memories together over the years and Barbados is still one of our favorites.
